- Police Motorcycle Leather
Suits are classified as personal protective equipment - (PPE).
- They are issued to police
officers as clothing to lessen the severity of accident damage whilst
performing their duty at work.
- All proper PPE has to meet
with a European Directive which has health and safety implications too.
- An industry recognised standard
has been accepted as a measure of motorcycle leathers - which when applied
will allow for CE Mark conformity for the entire suit, not just the
padding!
- The Cambridge Standard,
developed in conjunction with the industry and it's manufacturers is
the only such measure available at present.
- If motorcycle leathers and
their body armour offer protection of any form, and claimed to do so
by it's manufacturer, it cannot escape the need for CE Mark conformity.
- This will mean the entire
garment and not just it's protectors inside!
A new Health
and Safety Act passed in 1997, no longer allows for police exemption and
as a Professional User, CE Approved clothing is seen as mandatory.
